Zahli Kelly has been crowned champion today at the Hydralyte Sports Surf Series presented by Billabong at Bells Beach.
An increase in swell overnight saw 3-4ft waves at the world famous beach for the finals of the event and in a closely contested final, Zahli Kelly found a wave in the final minutes locking in a score of 9.5 to win the opening event of the WSL Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) ahead of Californian surfer Alyssa Spencer.
“I’m so happy to win, especially because I did it on my last wave. To win at Bells is so special.” said Zahli.
“I knew that I needed a big score and I couldn’t really hear the scores because of the wind. I didn’t feel any pressure because I didn’t think I was going to win, so I just wanted to have fun on my last wave.”
Kirra-Belle Olsson finished in third on 12.60 points, with Piper Harrison in fourth on 6.85 points.
The next event will be held on the Gold Coat on April 28th/29th.
